Greenbridge Roundabout work enters final stages

The Greenbridge Roundabout improvement works, which are part of a programme to improve major routes into Swindon to keep pace with the future development of the New Eastern Villages (NEV), are continuing apace after the festive break.

Over the next few weeks the junction’s traffic signals and street lighting will be completed and landscaping works on the roundabout itself and the surrounding area will also take place.

Any remaining signs will be installed and from 16 January any surfacing and footpath defects will be rectified.

Temporary give way lining will be installed on all the arms of the roundabout early next week until the signals are up and running permanently.

The Greenbridge roundabout improvement works will bring the following benefits:

  • an increase in lanes around the roundabout
  • widened entry and exit routes
  • traffic signals installed on all approaches
  • additional pedestrian and cycle crossings
  • a new exit from the Greenbridge retail park to reduce traffic on the roundabout

The project is necessary to relieve a peak-time bottleneck and improve road links towards the east of Swindon, where 8,000 new homes, a district centre, new schools and employment for up to 4,000 people will be created over the next 15 years as part of the Eastern Villages expansion.

More information about the project is available at www.swindon.gov.uk/nev
