Final countdown to this year’s Swindon JobFest

Hundreds of young people are expected to flock to STEAM next Tuesday (23 Feb) for one of the town’s major career events.

Swindon JobFest, which last year attracted more than 300 people, will be the place to go for young people interested in future career opportunities.

Eighty employers will be at Tuesday’s event, up from just over 50 last year, and JobFest has proved so popular a further seven organisations have asked to be placed on reserve.

Swindon Borough Council’s Employment and Apprenticeship Partnership is organising the event in conjunction with Business West and the Careers and Enterprise Company.

Swindon JobFest is taking place in the Great Hall at STEAM, Kemble Drive between 1pm and 6pm. Managed by Swindon Borough Council, the event will tap into the aspirations of young people and raise awareness of career options, giving them the chance to find out about the career and apprenticeship opportunities in a wide variety of sectors and roles.

There will also be support available on how to put together a CV as well as top tips on interview techniques, information about apprenticeships; and how to start your own business.

A number of leading local employers have already signed up to the event including: Honda, Network Rail, English Heritage and Nationwide, while other top companies involved in the day include Zurich, Great Western Hospital, McArthur Glen, Thamesdown Transport plus many more.

Cllr Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy, Regeneration and Skills, said: “The response from local employers has been magnificent and shows their desire to engage with Swindon’s future workforce and showcase what they have to offer.

“We had a great turnout last year, but with even more firms signed up this time around I’m confident JobFest will be even more successful and I look forward to seeing the Great Hall packed with enthusiastic young people next Tuesday.”
